I've been spending this night reading interviews with my old favourite band Travis, and am almost feeling sorry that I ever started listening to Coldplay, weezer, and ZWAN.
Then, however, I remind myself. I say, just like this: 'Steven, you can like more than one band equally. Liking other bands as much as Travis isn't a crime. They can still be your all time favourite band.' - but then, I remember the awesome times I had listening to Coldplay, and I think something like this, I think: 'Steven, how can you betray Coldplay as your number one band? You know you like them best.' - then I repeat that process with weezer, and just settle to have ZWAN as my second favourite band and the other three tied for first. You all wanted to know that, because it's about music, and music is second only to God in what makes the world go round. In Memory of Petey [Steven] Time:9:51 PM
They say imitation is the highest form of compliment. I don't know who "they" are, but "they" obviously never got their blogs parodied.

Last night I played some Mechassault (as I have the past several nights). I completed two levels, but the third I failed miserably. I tried over and over, but I just couldn't get it. Finally I gave up in frustration and went to bed. But sleep was the farthest thing from my mind. I kept thinking about how I should've tried going here, or doing this, and I subconciously worked my mind feverishily around the game, trying desperately to beat it in my head. I didn't get to sleep until about 12:30. So what did I learn? "Ah," says the prudent reader, "Surely he has learned not to play Mechassault before bed." But such is not the case; I would liken such an act to that of depriving a canary of its feed for several days. Entirely unhealthy. No, I have learned that one must not give up trying to beat the game, simply because it is one's bed time. I would further expound this great truth, but I've a game to beat.

I just finished reading SH's translation of Beowulf, and I've got to hand it to him, it kicks some serious buttocks.
I think every Christian should read it, because it shows the unmolested, pure Christianity that existed at the time it was written. Have you ever met one of those (or perhaps you are one) young christians, and they're totally gung-ho and deffensive about it and spread the word as much as they can? That's how whole nations were back then. They believed in it whole-heartedly, and I think truly realized the power of God and His will. Numerous times beyond count phrases such as 'as was the will of the Almighty' or talk of how one cannot escape His will, and even talks about how our bodies are only lent to us for a short while. It's great. It really is. I give Seamus Heaney's Beowulf 10 out of 10...whatever it is we give stuff as a rating, because it is a purely excellent version of an already excellent story. Will internal strife over political issues tear this blog apart before it even had a chance to start? Is Steven's real name Steven Dyck? How much would they pay Steve and John to kill Saddam? Do we like crunchy or smooth peanut butter? Stay tuned to find out!

First, I do not know these blasphemous canucks.
Secondly, BOMB IRAQ!!! WOO-EFFIN-HAW! No, but really. I think Bush is just doing it for the oil, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be done, because I also think Saddam needs dealt with. So really, it doesn't matter why Bush is doing it, just as long as it's done. Saddam IS a psycho-dictator-killer-man and HAS gassed his own people and killed them and murdered and even faught a war against Americans. So, while I'm against doing it for oil, I'm very much for killing Saddam. I'd go over there and do it myself if someone would ask me to, and pay me a bunch of money. Yeah, I'm a sell out, so what. Ok, I have a topic, eh. So like, what is it with Bush and Iraq, eh? He's like, "You have horked us for the last time, you hosers. We're going to come over there and bomb you!" And they're like, "Take off, we don't have any weapons, eh!" And then Bush is like, "I want to bomb you Saddam! You are evil, and you should... die. And I want your oil, eh" Huhuhu, its like, well like, I think... that's all he wants, eh. K, eh, I'm done.

I am still awesome. More later.

I was reading Penny Arcade the other day, and Tycho used the phrase 'pop nihilism.'
I've been thinking about it, and he's so right. That is to say, nihilism is like a fad plaguing modern culture, especially the online culture of teens who try to act like they're emotionless robots who hate microsoft and hate anything superior, and hate anything inferior, and couldn't care less about anything at all. It's really stupid, and I'm sick of it. I know quite a few people who indulge in this behaviour, and it's annoying as all get out. To all of you who think that your nihilism makes you cool, get a life and grow up. That said, hello. In Memory of Petey [Steven] Time:9:48 AM Tuesday, January 28, 2003
It's sad when the only point of interest in my life is a little polly pocket man named Tiny Bill.
Either way, I finally was able to make a new episode (two, actually), so there it is. enjoy meal! (in other news, get out your rubber hats and toe-socks, it's time to rejoice! the new Credenda/Agenda is out, this issue on wood. It seems to me like their issues are steadily getting weirder and weirder. i know there's only so much you can milk medievalism-vs-gnosticism, but I liked the old ones better than these new issues: now flavoured with snobbery, unreadable poetry, and too much Italian wine. give it up, guys.) It is a funny thing that the word for "the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body," and "the sequence of physical and mental experiences that make up the existence of an individual," (viz, life) should have such little diffrence to me right now. They have become melded into one: Mechassault.

I think ZWAN may actually be okay. At first, I thought maybe it would just be Smashing Pumpkins v2.0. But they're not. They rock. In fact, I'm looping them right now. I would like, write a review of their album or something, but I don't have it.
I would post some shameful advertisement for Tiny Bill, but my camera is out of batteries and my keyboard has been broken, and it's too dark to do pictures now, so it's going to have to wait until tomorrow, so I'd feel really bad about doing that. In Memory of Petey [Steven] Time:8:01 PM |
