I am convinced I have the coolest job in the whole world. There is so much strength and elegance in books, and to work with them so intimately is indeed a privilege. Not only working with the books, though, but the rest of my job, as a sort of lackey for Mr. Mattingsly; getting more sugar for his coffee, helping him put a new sign out front, and other such trivialities that bring so much more character to a job. Mr. Mattingsly is himself an interesting man to be around. Today some people brought in what they deemed to be a very old book - from the 1900s (1905, he figured) and Mr. Mattingsly politely had to educate them on the nature of books and the book trade. He estimated a ten dollar value on their little treasure.
